Problems Using the 101 Incident Reporting Number

The following self explanatory email has been sent to Greg Smith the Sussex Police 101 Contact Handler and it is hoped that we will be able to publish a reply shortly:

Hello Greg
Many thanks for your reply and to the original switchboard operator for her advice when I was trying to make contact on 101 last week.
As the village Neighbourhood Watch coordinator I am extremely concerned about the high number of negative comments that are coming back from members of the community when advising them to ‘phone 101 to report non urgent incidents and suspicions etc.  Words and phrases such as ‘Useless’, ‘Waste of time’, ‘Pointless’, ‘Frustrating’ and ‘Annoying’  are constantly being repeated and often posted on our Social Media pages.  More than a few report that they have been hanging on the line for anything between 30 to 60 minutes to have their call put through.
Is their anything I can tell our members to reassure them that the use of the 101 number is still of value and importance to local policing and that the current problems with reporting incidents using the number will be resolved?

Sing for your Supper

Friday 22nd June at the Village Hall from 7.30pm

The Variety Club would like to invite members and interested friends to join us for a fun filled sing-along with live music.

We will be joined by pianist Dom Hartley.  Favourite songs and popular numbers over the decades are on the menu together with Carol’s legendary chilli. (Vegetarian option will be available on request.) Bring a bottle with you or soft drinks will be available at the hall.

Entry is free to all, but donations to the cost of the food would be most welcome at the event.

Suspicious Van Activity in the Village

Neighbourhood Watch Alert!
A resident has reported a series of suspicious looking vehicles entering and leaving his drive in the Wilderness Lane / Riverside area of the village recently.
The most recent being yesterday, Wednesday 6th. June at 2.10 pm a white Vauxhall larger type van Reg. No. KT17LXC driver wearing a Hi-Vis orange jacket. Could possibly be a courier/delivery person who had lost his way but was considered suspicious?
And today the 7th. June a smaller white Vauxhall Combi van Reg. No. DV53HKC. The driver had a beard and was in mid 30s, the passenger estimated at mid 20s both acting extremely suspiciously and described as ‘scruffy’.
Please be especially alert over the coming days and weeks as these people may be reconnoitring houses and outbuildings prior to break-ins.

Pop Up Supper Club at the Pavilion

The Playing Field Committee are pleased to announce that the first of this years Pop Up Suppers will be a Polish themed menu. In fact you might say we are “supper” excited!

Please join us at the Playing Field Pavilion from 7pm on Friday 15th June. A three course meal will be served for £15 per person.  Bring your own wine and beer.

The Pavilion is a lovely setting especially when it is  transformed for the evening into a convivial pop up restaurant.

Open Gardens are back!

Please join us on Saturday 16th June 12:00pm – 5:00pm

After the successful launch of the Open Gardens Project last year during the Celebrate Festival its back! With even more gardens for you to view. Teas will be served all afternoon at both Hadlow Lodge, Wilderness Lane and Springwell Cottage, Hall Lane.

Fly Tipping in Tinkers Lane!!

During the early hours of this morning (1/6/18 c. 1 am) someone dumped a large amount of rubbish in the lane. Such a large amount in fact that the lane was completely blocked and police were called. A private CCTV about 300 metre north of the site could only catch the image of a large white van and unable to capture the number plate. It is thought that the culprits were taking advantage of the general ambient noise coming from preparations for the weekend in Tinkers Park to cover their activities. A Friend Against Scams

The Hadlow Down Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator has now become ‘A Friend Against Scams’  the project is a National Trading Standards  initiative.
Consumers lose £5 to 10 billion every year to internet, ‘phone & door-to-door scams.  Hadlow Down Online aims to create as much awareness as possible via the Village Web Site, Bulk emailed Newsletters, Email Alerts, the Village Facebook Group and Parish Magazine.  ‘Friend Against Scams’ news and alerts will be included in the Neighbourhood Watch pages of the Village Web Site listing all current and recent scams as well as offering advice on what action should be taken when you think you may be a victim of a scam or have been targeted by scammers.
We welcome all input from villagers regarding scams they receive or know of in order that we can make more people aware of those currently ‘doing the rounds’.  Please email details to webadmin@hadlowdown.com headed ‘Scam Alert’.

Scam Warning: Phone message threatens HMRC lawsuit

HMRC has sent an alert about a scam which targets taxpayers and seems to be aimed at the elderly in particular.
There is currently a telephone scam where a recorded message is left, allegedly from HMRC, stating that HMRC are bringing a lawsuit against the individual and is going to sue them. The recipient is asked to phone 0161 8508494 and press “1” to speak to the officer dealing with the case. This scam is becoming widely reported and seems to be targeting older people. Milne and his family soon become swept up in the instant success of the books, while the enchanting tales bring hope and comfort to the rest of postwar England.

The Big Village Party 2

The Village Fayre Committee are proud to be hosting the second Big Village Party at the Playing Field.

The Party will start at 4pm on Saturday 30th June and will finish at Midnight. Our aim is to embrace the young and old of the
village and to help with this the School will be curating a festival area for the young which will be running from 4pm.

After 3 brilliant years bringing you the Village Fayre from Tinkers Park, we bid a fond farewell and are enjoying settling back into our original home at The Playing Field in the heart of our village.

The Playing Field is a beautiful setting and its ours, the Villages’ and we love it! It’s got loads of space for us to run around and offers a stunning outlook for the Marquees.

Like last year we will bring you fantastic live music from 5pm with a diverse line up, again something for all tastes. Stay in touch here and on the Village Website for the confirmed line up announcements. A full schedule with timings will be
published shortly before the festival.

Our aim is to provide a range of delicious food and drink using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. There will be a delicious barbecue, with gourmet burgers and salad.
Vegetarian options including pesto and halloumi burgers, a vegetarian curry and more! Meal tickets will be
sold at the event or before with a discounted price for groups/ families.
