Hadlow Down Gardening Club Facebook Group

A village Gardening Club was first suggested in our Parish Magazine some time ago but the poor response did not merit any work in taking the idea further. There would seem to have been an increase in interest in village gardens and gardening recently perhaps partially due to people spending more time at home due to Covid.
A Hadlow Down Gardening Club has now been created as a Facebook Group just for villagers and village friends who love gardening.
The Group is not officially associated with our excellent Hadlow Down Horticultural Society but can perhaps be used as a supplementary platform where anyone interested in gardening can join and exchange ideas, news, photographs, points of view, information or even plants, seeds or garden accessories at any time of the year without waiting for meetings or events to occur.
It is also hoped that enough people are interested we may be able to negotiate exclusive discounts and benefits from plant, seed & accessory providers for group members
There are of course no fees or paid membership involved just an interest in gardening!

Dog Kennel Lane Closure

Road closure notification! Dog Kennel Lane will be closed to through traffic 24 hours a day for 4 days starting 8th Nov while ESCC Highways carry out parapet repairs. If vehicle access is required please discuss with the team on site. Traffic will be diverted via Brick Kiln Lane, Wheelers Lane, A272, Spring Lane & visa versa. Annual Poppy Appeal

After a year where door to door collections were impossible, the annual poppy appeal will kick off on Friday 29th October in Hadlow Down.

Door to door collections in support of Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal will recommence this year on 29th October and we very much hope the village will continue to give generously as has been the case in the past.  Covid has taught us all that we can, by and large, live without cash, however we are not yet geared up to accept donations through card readers.  We would be hugely grateful if you could remember to put aside a little cash when our collectors come visiting to support this worthy appeal.

No Trick or Treat

Trick or Treating may be fun for some, but it’s not for everyone.
Older people can find it quite scary enough just having to answer a door knock or bell ring on a dark evening others can find it quite embarrassing when nothing is at hand to give to give to disappointed children and have to say no.
If you would prefer not have anyone call on you instead of sitting with the lights out on Halloween night, hoping no one will knock, why not put a sign out on your door.

Huge bonfire, massive firework display, bar, food, toffee apples…

Puppy School is a nationwide puppy socialisation and training scheme founded by internationally renowned trainer and behaviour expert Gwen Bailey. Puppy School is designed to help you to teach your puppy valuable socialisation and life skills, whilst building a lifelong partnership through positive, reward-based training methods
The course covers basic positions (sit, down, stand, stay), lead walking, recall, settling calmly, confidence around real life experiences (vets & groomers), greeting people without jumping and much more.
If you are looking to give your puppy the best start in life, your trainer Sarah offers a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment for you to learn in, so you can build confidence with your training skills too!

Help Please !

St Mark’s Churchyard needs a tidy up!

Now that the wild flowers have died back and seeds dispersed, the grass has been strimmed ready to be raked up.

There is also a good deal of debris to clear from other areas and we need some help ! Could you spare an hour or two?

We are aiming to do this on Saturday, 30th October, meeting at 9.30 am in the churchyard.

Anyone who can assist please bring a rake, gloves and clippers.

The Christmas Market is back !

We are delighted to announce The Christmas Market is back ! Do join us if you can in the Village Hall on Saturday 27th November between 10 am and 1.30 pm.

Tea Coffee and cakes will be served all morning.

Stalls will include Cards, Gifts, Clothes, Jewellery, Preserves, Locally Produced Meat and Bric-a Brac
