When two little Pigs leave their home-made huts one morning, two very large friends move in- Moose and Bear. It’s very nice to have your friends stay, but not when they cause your home to collapse! The solution: build a house where all four of them can live together, little and big. With some help from the beaver builders and LOTS of peanut butter sandwiches, that’s exactly what they do.

Bonfire

The Annual Bonfire Celebrations are organised by The Playing Field Committee with the support of volunteers. It takes place at The Playing Field and is one of our annual fundraising events. Residents meet at the New Inn to collect torches and then form a procession to the Field. On arrival at the Playing Field all torch bearers are invited to circle the Bonfire prior to the traditional Bonfire Cry being recited, then, the torches are cast onto the fire.  An organised  fireworks display follows.

It’s run by a committee of trustees with much help from our friends and volunteers.

Village Trust and Archive

In forming the Hadlow Down Village Trust our aim was to record the memories of the village and its people in sound, vision and print for future generations, and to preserve vital oral history and accounts of village life in the twentieth and twenty first century.

The original idea came from Eddie Westfield who felt strongly that we record this type of social history, and retain interesting documents and photographs for future generations. A Trust was formed in May 2018 and our first task was to secure the wonderful archive of Peter Gillies, author of the excellent HadlowDown: An Autobiography. We have been well supported by local people who have donated or lent us old photographs and material to scan and archive, and shared their stories.

We aim to share the images and stories with you here, if you have any memories, stories, pictures, documents or ephemera you would like to pass on to us please do get in touch.
