I’ve just been to St Mark’s Church to put the bin out for collection tomorrow and see that someone has stuck a post-it note on one of the ‘PLEASE CLOSE THE GATE’ signs on the double iron gates. Well, the long awaited day arrived on Friday 25th September, when our new Rector, the Rev. Pete Molloy, and his family arrived in Buxted. They were so pleased with all the preparations that had been done for them in the Rectory, making it as comfortable as possible until their own furniture and possessions arrive from Canada. They then had to quarantine for 2 weeks, because of the pandemic, but were finally free to explore their new surroundings on Friday 9th October. Remembrance Sunday 8th November: there will be a service in St. Marks Church at 3.00 pm. It current with Covid-19 guidelines we are asking people to wear masks, sanitise their hands upon arrival at the church and check in with track & trace details. They will be asked to socially distance within the church. During the service music will be played but as is becoming commo
n during weekly services we will hum into our masks!!!!
Wednesday, 11th November in St Marks Churchyard – There will be an Act of Remembrance at 11.00 am and all will be welcome, however masks should be worn and we ask you to observe social distancing.

PCC ANNOUNCEMENT: “The Reverend Pete Molloy has been appointed Rector of Buxted and Hadlow Down. Pete comes to us from Canada, where he has served in parishes in Saskatchewan and Ontario. He has now been granted the necessary visa to undertake this role, though his post is subject to legal formalities. We look forward to welcoming him, his wife Ann and son Simeon. The date of his institution and induction will be finalised in the near future.”

In the autumn of 2018, the Parish of Buxted and Hadlow Down received a National Lottery grant of £10,000 for a project ‘Remembering our Heroes’ within the parish but mainly in the Hadlow Down area. Awarded through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s First World War then and now programme, the project focused on paying tribute to the men and women from our community who bravely served their country during WW1.
