Door-to-door Virus Check Scams

Village Volunteers have received information that door to door fraudsters have been operating in West Sussex offering Covid-19 Virus checks that are fake. It is almost inevitable that even if these particular fraudsters don’t target future victims in East Sussex and our local area someone else is liable to.
These are always going to be fake offers and anyone receiving callers at their doors offering virus checks should immediately contact the police.
There are a multitude of other scams regarding the virus that have been reported please watch out for details of them on national and local news stations
Please do not become a fraud statistic by falling for fake calls, emails or any other type of contact regarding the corona virus.

Suspicious Activity – Selling ‘Surplus’ Garden Furniture

A man in a large white Peugeot Boxer van. Registration GF18NGX. Has been knocking on doors in the Wilderness Lane area of the village.  He says he is selling ‘surplus garden furniture’  When resident told him he was not interested he asked if I knew anyone around here he could call on.   It is thought he then went along Riverside. Might be legitimate but be aware just in case.
It sounds like very similar activity in the same area about a year ago.  Please report any more incidents to the village Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator at admin@hadlowdown.com or ‘phone 01825 830661
or post them on the Hadlow Down Neighbourhood Watch Facebook page

Vandals Set Fire to School ‘Outdoor Classroom’

Many villagers may already be aware, that sadly some mindless individuals have intentionally set fire to St. Mark’s School ‘outdoor classroom’ area at SMILE Meadow. The school has informed the Police and the Fire Service and, at present, are thinking of how they can move forward to rebuild this area for the children. As this is a temporary structure, it is unfortunately not insured. Once the school has some ideas, they would like to call on all parents and the village community for any donations of materials and time to help us with its reconstruction.
