Duck Road Casualty

A road casualty duck had to be admitted earlier this week from Curtain Hill Hadlow Down. The poor creature was found around midnight so rescuers attended and found the duck had some road burn and a few puncture wounds which were cleaned up back at WRAS’s hospital. Deer Rescue in Hadlow Down
Wildlife rescuers save deer whose antlers were attached to barbed wire fence
The distressed animal was found in a field off Stonehurst Lane in Hadlow Down, Uckfield, on Thursday. It was struggling frantically before a team from the East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance (WRAS) arrived.

SUMMER HOLIDAY SWIMS IN HADLOW DOWN
Chris and Anne Yarrow have created a 125 square metre natural swimming pond in their garden at Huggetts Furnace Mill, Stonehurst Lane. They are opening it up for Hadlow Down residents in return for a small contribution to their daughter’s charity Doctors for Nepal. Free soft drinks if you walk or cycle from home.
The pond is about 20m long and about 1.2 metres /4 ft. deep (max.1.4 m. /4ft 8”). It is kept pure by circulating the water through gravel beds and by pond plants, so you won’t go home smelling of chlorine! Heated by solar panels, it usually has a temperature of about 21C to 25C(70F to 77F).
Rules: Use by prior arrangement only; all children to be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult at all times; no dogs; civilised behaviour requested, and we reserve the right to ask visitors to leave.

“Appalling” Bin Emptying Service
Wealden District Council has brought in a temporary contractor to clear a number of recycling Bring Sites in the community this week.
“The Service we are receiving for Kier at the moment is appalling and there is no immediate prospect of that getting significantly better. The problems are extended through-out Wealden,” Councillor Roy Galley, Cabinet member for Waste and Recycling told Cabinet (Wednesday).
“Close Pass of a Horse”
Op Crackdown has recently added a new reporting category – “Close pass of a horse” to look to evidence an increasing amount of near miss reports that are received. This category is in addition to the “Close pass of a Cyclist” which has been in place for a year now. As with all reports to Op Crackdown – you will need the registration number of the vehicle concerned and ideally some form of corroborative evidence such as helmet cam.

Sing for your Supper
Friday 22nd June at the Village Hall from 7.30pm
The Variety Club would like to invite members and interested friends to join us for a fun filled sing-along with live music.
We will be joined by pianist Dom Hartley. Favourite songs and popular numbers over the decades are on the menu together with Carol’s legendary chilli. (Vegetarian option will be available on request.) Bring a bottle with you or soft drinks will be available at the hall.
Entry is free to all, but donations to the cost of the food would be most welcome at the event.
Suspicious Van Activity in the Village
Neighbourhood Watch Alert!
A resident has reported a series of suspicious looking vehicles entering and leaving his drive in the Wilderness Lane / Riverside area of the village recently.
The most recent being yesterday, Wednesday 6th. June at 2.10 pm a white Vauxhall larger type van Reg. No. KT17LXC driver wearing a Hi-Vis orange jacket. Could possibly be a courier/delivery person who had lost his way but was considered suspicious?
And today the 7th. June a smaller white Vauxhall Combi van Reg. No. DV53HKC. The driver had a beard and was in mid 30s, the passenger estimated at mid 20s both acting extremely suspiciously and described as ‘scruffy’.
Please be especially alert over the coming days and weeks as these people may be reconnoitring houses and outbuildings prior to break-ins.
Pop Up Supper Club at the Pavilion
The Playing Field Committee are pleased to announce that the first of this years Pop Up Suppers will be a Polish themed menu. In fact you might say we are “supper” excited!
Please join us at the Playing Field Pavilion from 7pm on Friday 15th June. A three course meal will be served for £15 per person. Bring your own wine and beer.
The Pavilion is a lovely setting especially when it is transformed for the evening into a convivial pop up restaurant.
