The Big Village Party 2
The Village Fayre Committee are proud to be hosting the second Big Village Party at the Playing Field.
The Party will start at 4pm on Saturday 30th June and will finish at Midnight. Our aim is to embrace the young and old of the
village and to help with this the School will be curating a festival area for the young which will be running from 4pm.
After 3 brilliant years bringing you the Village Fayre from Tinkers Park, we bid a fond farewell and are enjoying settling back into our original home at The Playing Field in the heart of our village.
The Playing Field is a beautiful setting and its ours, the Villages’ and we love it! It’s got loads of space for us to run around and offers a stunning outlook for the Marquees.
Like last year we will bring you fantastic live music from 5pm with a diverse line up, again something for all tastes. Stay in touch here and on the Village Website for the confirmed line up announcements. A full schedule with timings will be
published shortly before the festival.
Our aim is to provide a range of delicious food and drink using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. There will be a delicious barbecue, with gourmet burgers and salad.
Vegetarian options including pesto and halloumi burgers, a vegetarian curry and more! Meal tickets will be
sold at the event or before with a discounted price for groups/ families.
If you would like to pre-buy meal tickets please contact
Mandy on 01825 830916 mandy.chapman45@googlemail.com
or Glenys on 01825 830857 glenys.lake@btopenworld.com
no later than Monday 25th June.
We hope you will embrace the Festival vibe! Our inspiration this year is all the colours of the rainbow and we hope you will embrace all that brings. We plan to party whatever the weather so dust off your sequins, get creative with your make-up and outfit! We positively encourage fancy dress…so get your thinking caps on. Let’s dress up and dance!
The Ghost Train Postponed
It is with great regret that Hadlow Down Variety Club, following in the best tradition of British Rail, must announce that the Ghost Train scheduled to run on 4th. & 5th May has had to be postponed. One of our lead actors has suddenly fallen ill and will need a long period of recovery and we all wish him well. Being so close to the performance date finding someone to take the part on is not an option but the director and cast having already put so much work into what will be a great local theatrical production are determined that the show is not cancelled but just postponed. The new dates are November the 23rd. & 24th. The good news is that there may be more seats available! Watch this space!!
For all ticket queries and to book for the November dates ring:
Glenys on 01825 830857
Football
We now have a brand-new football area. Fully leveled, drained and re-seeded.
It’s run by a committee of trustees with much help from our friends and
volunteers. Thanks to a grant we received from Wealden District Council, we have purchased some goals, corner flags and a line marking machine and paint. So we are fully kitted up and ready for the 2018-19 season.

Bonfire
The Annual Bonfire Celebrations are organised by The Playing Field
Committee with the support of volunteers. It takes place at The Playing Field and is one of our annual fundraising events. Residents meet at the New Inn to collect torches and then form a procession to the Field. On arrival at the Playing Field all torch bearers are invited to circle the Bonfire prior to the traditional Bonfire Cry being recited, then, the torches are cast onto the fire. An organised fireworks display follows.
It’s run by a committee of trustees with much help from our friends and volunteers.

Village Trust and Archive
In forming the Hadlow Down Village Trust our aim was to record the memories of the village and its people in sound, vision and print for future generations, and to preserve vital oral history and accounts of village life in the twentieth and twenty first century.
The original idea came from Eddie Westfield who felt strongly that we record this type of social history, and retain interesting documents and photographs for future generations. A Trust was formed in May 2018 and our first task was to secure the wonderful archive of Peter Gillies, author of the excellent HadlowDown: An Autobiography. We have been well supported by local people who have donated or lent us old photographs and material to scan and archive, and shared their stories.
We aim to share the images and stories with you here, if you have any memories, stories, pictures, documents or ephemera you would like to pass on to us please do get in touch.
