Hort. Soc. Visit to King John’s Lodge

Hadlow Down Horticultural Society members are planning a car visit to King John’s Lodge in Etchingham  on Thursday June 24th..
This trip to the extensive and impressive gardens is the first opportunity for members to meet up since lockdown and we’re sure there will be a lot of conversational catching up to do which will be enjoyed in the excellent cafe in the grounds.  There is also an “Aladdin’s Cave” of a shop and a very good nursery to browse round after visiting the gardens.
All garden loving villagers are invited to join members and talk about other gardens and other Hort. Soc. activities.
Anyone who wants to join us we will meet at the cafe at 10.30 am.  Please just let Heather know you’re coming at heathermines2@hotmail.com and  turn up on the day.  The cost is £6.50 per person

Remembering Our Heroes – Lottery Grant

National Lottery support for the PCC of Buxted and Hadlow Down to mark First World War Centenary.

This month the Parish of Buxted and Hadlow Down has received a National Lottery grant of £10,000 for a project ‘Remembering our Heroes’ within the parish but mainly in the Hadlow Down area. Awarded through the Heritage Lottery Fund’s First World War then and now programme, the project will focus on paying tribute to the men and women from our community who bravely served their country during WW1, and also to the many millions of others who were killed or dreadfully wounded. On the 100th anniversary of this great and terrible struggle, we reflect upon the sacrifice of 1 million Commonwealth service men and women who were killed during the First World War. The project will also commemorate the huge army of men and women on the home front who, often in dangerous and exhausting conditions, underpinned the war effort – keeping the wheels of industry turning and bringing home the harvests from rural areas like Hadlow Down. “Thank You” to the First World War generation.

Village Film Night – Good Bye Lenin

Hadlow Down Village Hall in association with the ENGAGE charity present.
In October 1989, right before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Alex Kerner (Daniel Brühl) is living with his mom, Christiane (Kathrin Sass), and sister, Ariane (Maria Simon). But when the mother, a loyal party member, sees Alex participating in an anti-communist rally, she falls into a coma and misses the revolution. After she wakes, doctors say any jarring event could make her have a heart attack, meaning the family must go to great lengths to pretend communism still reigns in Berlin.

From the chair of HDD&VC:
I am delighted to be able to give you more exciting information about our next HDD&VC meeting on the 15th. May, which is at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
We will be showing the wonderful film ‘The History Boys’ (rated 18). The History Boys is a 2006 British comedy-drama film adapted by Alan Bennet from his play of the same name  which won the 2005 Olivier Award for Best New Play and the 2006 Tony Award for Best Play.
A select number of boys, who managed to achieve grades which merit an application to Oxford or Cambridge in their A-Levels, experience a term of revelation at their grammar school as they are tutored for the "most important exam of their lives" in history. On the evening we will be serving Wine and Cheese for you to enjoy whilst watching the film. There will be one glass of wine for everyone to enjoy, free of charge, and a selection of cheeses to go with it.
We want to make sure we cater for everyone so please
