Little Lily Harley

The Rude Mechanical Theatre Company
Present
Little Lily Harley at The Cricket Field, Hadlow Down, East Sussex, Saturday 7th August at 7.30pm

‘Little Lily Harley’ is about Charlie Chaplin’s childhood in Lambeth. With a drunken but charismatic actor father who was rarely around & a beautiful young actress of a mother who had three children by different fathers, he had to learn along-side his big brother Sydney how to survive a very precarious existence. Sometimes fostered by other people, sometimes in a school for destitute children, sometimes separated from Sydney & sometimes living on the street (as a child!) he nevertheless managed to triumph over all this to become arguably the greatest film actor ever. Pete Talbot, the director, says, “When I wrote the play in 2019, I could not have known how apt it would be for today. The message of hope, triumph over pain, through the imagination and laughter, is really important for today.”

Village Litter Picking

Posted on behalf of Rachel Lewis:
As many will be aware a small team of village volunteers litter pick around the village at this time of year before the grass verges grow too long. Unfortunately the present team will not be able to do as much this year as before. Over the past year it has become apparent that there are many in the village keen to contribute to a spirit of village community and so it is hoped that a few people may be willing to volunteer to help out. by clearing verges within the village……. even 30 minutes of your time would be a great help!!
We have all of the equipment: bags, litter picking sticks, gloves, coloured tabards, etc and therefore are just looking for some villagers willing to help.
Once we have a team we will co-ordinate between ourselves who is picking which area and where bags of rubbish can be deposited so that they can then be collected.
Please can you email me at
if you are prepared to help and then we can take it from there.
Once again many thanks for your continued support and keep safe.
Rachel

The Ghost Train Postponed

It is with great regret that Hadlow Down Variety Club, following in the best tradition of British Rail, must announce that the Ghost Train scheduled to run on 4th. & 5th May has had to be postponed.  One of our lead actors has suddenly fallen ill and will need a long period of recovery and we all wish him well.   Being so close to the performance date finding someone to take the part on is not an option but the director and cast having already put so much work into what will be a great local theatrical production are determined that the show is not cancelled but just postponed.   The new dates are November the 23rd. & 24th.   The good news is that there may be more seats available!  Watch this space!!
For all ticket queries and to book for the November dates ring:
