Reminder for all those with green fingers and muddy feet! The Hadlow Down Horticultural Society AGM takes place on Tuesday 27th. January 2009 at 10.30 a,m, ( 10.00 a.m. for coffee & biscuits) in the Village Hall.
All members and prospective members are welcome. The society plans to make the 2009 activities just as exciting as last year's; the trips to Sigglewiggle, Goodnestone Park Gardens and Latchetts were a great success and the two supper talks 'Colour in a Small Garden' and 'Tales from the Borders' were as oversubscribed as usual and as excellent as usual for those who could get tickets! (Perhaps we need an extension on the Village Hall?). All of these were 'topped off' with the 20th. Anniversary celebrations at Stocklands Farm on July 16th. The Hadlow Down Horticultural Society is the embodiment of a community spirit.

The Hadlow Down Variety Club has some great things lined up for 2009. A 'Mystery Murder Evening' is planned so all wanabee Holmes', Morses, Marples' and Poirots should keep their eyes peeled for details which we will bring you as soon as they are available. Watch out also for the '50's Evening' (Start hunting in the attic now for those many-layered petticoats, drainpipe trousers and bootlace ties - but make sure you try them on well before the event as they may need some minor alterations!!!).
The 'Kredit Krunch Kookbook' sounds like a great fund raising idea and should be on sale later in the year after the Variety Club team have persauded the culinary practitioners in our village to share their budget busting receipes.

Hadlow Down Online Admin wishes all users the very best for 2009
Changes are coming to the site so please bear with us over the coming weeks as we endeavour to publish all news items that are relevant to our village, add more pages highlighting the history , the people and the places of Hadlow Down and build a local business directory as well as resuming the viewing and downloading facility of the Parish Magazine and the Parish Council minutes. We need input from as many people as possible to make all this successful so please e-mail to webadmin@hadlowdown.com any items you think will be of interest to other villagers whether you are an individual, a club or society, or any other organisation. Your business can be included in the business directory as long as the main address is in the parish and the contact 'phone number is a Hadlow Down one.

It is cheaper to buy the cereal and throw it away than it is to pay normal prices to swim in Uckfield, Hailsham or Crowborough! You can get 4 packs of cereal for £6 from Tesco (even cheaper in Sainsburys) giving 4 vouchers. Swimming for 2 adults and 2 children costs over £10. Bargain!
It's half term next week - perfect time to take the kids swimming. See www.kelloggs.co.uk/whatson/swimming/ for details. Offer is valid until April next year and Freedom Leisure have currently signed up to accept vouchers until 30th June

Come along to Wilderness Wood on Sunday 23rd December at midday to see Chris Yarrow lose the beard he's had all his adult life - not having shaved for 47 years. The event is to raise money to help train a doctor for a remote area of Western Nepal. Chris' daughter Kate is a doctor with Medecins sans Frontieres and her assistant Lalit has secured a place at the Nepalgunj Medical College in Nepal. To fund his education £12,000 needs to be raised by January and £1,500 a year for the next 5 years. This sponsored removal of the beard is part of the fund raising activity. A glass of Christmas cheer will be provided but do please bring your cash, cheque book or credit cards to boost the fund. If you think you have problems trying to see a doctor, have a look at the website by clicking on http://www.doctorsfornepal.org/ to read about local conditions in Nepal.

A short film (about 5 minutes) of the firework display can be viewed here. Congratulations to the organisers of the display which was equal to many professional displays. If anybody has more film or still photographs of the display please submit them for inclusion.
