St. Mark's Church and Glebe Field, 6-7pm, Tuesday Feb.21.
To mark the completion of the spire re-shingling and repair project, and to thank everyone for their support, you are all warmly invited to a celebration Bonfire Party at 6pm on Shrove Tuesday, 21st February. As well as a big bonfire on the glebe field next to the church (we’ll throw on some token old shingles), there will be home-made soup, pancakes (it's Pancake Day) and soft drinks, and maybe a firework or two from the spire - and it’s all free! Bring your own wine/beer. Refreshments will be served in the church, but please be aware that the ground around the bonfire is quite uneven and may be muddy

Does anyone know why Captain Addison Joe Baker-Cresswell DSO RN was buried in St Mark's? The gentleman had an extremely distinguished career but from information available there is no apparent reason why he should have been buried in this part of the country.
If you have any knowledge of the man please email webadmin@hadlowdown.com

Members of the Horticultural Society who attended the AGM on Tuesday 17th. January listened to a talk by Allison Day the founder of the Bees Action Network on the current plight of bees. Allison's talk highlighted all the probable causes of bee population decline and enlightened members on just how serious that decline is. She also brought to the attention of the group The Daisy Chain Campaign which distributes organic non-polluted seed to allotment holders.

The government has stated that it aims to achieve country wide Superfast Broadband of speeds up to 20 mps by 2015. It is estimated that in the next few years Superfast Broadband will be a ‘must have’ requirement for any small business, home worker or student proposing to operate and/or reside in our village and of those already here. The need will also grow rapidly for the majority of those who use the internet for general, social and pleasure use. During the last couple of months your Parish Council has responded to East Sussex County Council’s request to be involved in their Superfast Broadband initiative by having a representative at two conferences on the subject and agreeing to support it. The Hadlow Down Do Information Technology club, or ‘HD DO IT’ as it’s known to its members, is up and running again after the Christmas break with a few changes. The popular ‘drop-in’ club now welcomes those adults who want to learn more about other related technology such as ‘Kindle’ books and ‘i-pads’ as well as beginning to use desktop or laptop computers for internet access and emailing or catching up on word processing, spreadsheet, publishing, database or many other applications. There are no planned courses or exams to worry about, members just drop in and learn their chosen subject at their own speed in the company of friendly people all looking to improve their knowledge and skills while also having a chat and an occasional laugh. And now it’s got even more sociable - we’ve included coffee and biscuits in the sessions!
The tutors are experienced and qualified and each session costs just a £2.50 donation to school funds to cover costs. If you are, or if you know, someone who could benefit from attending the club just turn up on any Friday in term time to St. Mark’s School at 2.00 p.m. Or alternatively call 830661 for more information.

As a large number of residents have raised concerns over the danger of cars parking so close to a blind junction at the top of School Lane (at the junction with the A272) and feel that it creates an unacceptable level of danger at the junction which could lead to a serious road traffic accident (there have already been a large number of minor collisions reported). The Parish Council have held numerous discussions with East Sussex County Council (ESCC) about extending the double yellow lines and this has now been on their waiting list for more than 5 years and we wish to apply pressure to get this work done as soon as possible.

This is a request for the whole village to respond by the 21st. February please
