In the immediate post war (1939 -1945) period  the Village Hut was used by the Women's Institute, the Men's Social Club, the British Legion, the Country Dancing Club as well as being used by the Parish Council.

The Hut cost £175 a year to maintain but only nominal rents were charged to the users of the facility. It ran up debts from 1946 and when the new committee took office in 1947 they were faced with unpaid accounts of £30.  The Hut was in urgent need of repair inside and out.

To combat the problem the new committee launched an annual appeal for funds.  In doing so they made it clear that until a new Social Centre was built the Village Hut must continue to provide for the  social needs of the Village Community and it can only do this if more people will share the burden of financing it.

My mother Kathleen Napthine(We lived in Rose Cottage) was caretaker of the hall as we called it for some time until we returned to London towards the end of 1945.I remember seeing films at the hall and remember dances that were held there.Mum had to keep the hall clean and be ready for various events.I remember Colonel Coad (or Code) had a youth group there which I joined. As the war ended about that time it didn't last long.I remember being very disappointed as a ten year old.Ah!those were the days.
